INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – The U.S. Navy will be naming a warship in honor of late U.S. Senator Richard Lugar.

He died at age 87 in April. Lugar spent 36 years in the U.S. Senate and became known as a foreign policy expert. He is being remembered for his soft-spoken ways and his ability to work with politicians from both parties.

A naming ceremony will be held for the USS Richard G. Lugar on Monday at the Indiana War Memorial.

Senators Todd Young and Mike Braun had proposed the next warship be named after Lugar back in June.
